Making a Show worth Watching
A Notice from Future Screenwriter Bram Clabby
“Danger Dan” will never just be entertainment. “Danger Dan” will be a way of looking at the world.
Watch the trailers for the show and you’ll see fantasy action heroes and the occasional super-powered rock band. Technically, that is what the show’s “about.” But that’s merely the medium of the show. Fantasy in Danger Dan becomes an allegory for everything else.
Danger Dan is about making a living doing something you can be proud of. It’s about keeping your chin up when the world is literally crumbling around you. It’s about keeping with the right crowd, keeping an eye out for the wrong crowd and showing the difference to those in between.
Everything under the sun has a parallel in Danger Dan’s world somewhere. Look for ethnic tensions and divisions, and you’ll see it in vampires and werewolves. Look for a cycle of dependency, and you’ll find it in debtors who get their superpowers from the Necrolyte and work to repay him. And when hippies, pastors and lawyers don masks and smash through a brick wall, even the youngest viewers will be paying attention to what they have to say.
But if you tune in and find Dan tangling with a lightning hydra squid, it may just be a lightning hydra squid. After all, it can't be too educational.
